 15.8 Micron

This enigmatic number refers to the average diameter of the actual fibre : 15.8 microns. A micron is one millionth of a metre, the traditional unit fo measuring the individual fibres of the yarn . such yarns of fineness and perfect regularity are reminiscent of clath produced with traditional timeless elegance by the "Dormeuil House". A tremendous collection of traditional designs, with a hint of dash and daring personified in bright red, mauve and multi coloured stripes.

Dormeuil are proud to announce, after many years of research, combined with travel to distant lands in search of the most exotic fibres, a completely new concept in luxury fabric, Guanashina, a blend of three precious and rare fibres expressing the ultimate essence of luxury.

Once in a lifetime, a cloth is created which is so unique, so inimitable, so peerless, that it transcends any superlative used to describe it. Never in the history of luxury fabrics has such a creation ever been contemplated, let alone achieved.

The story of the three fibres is, in itself, a tale encompassing traditions and cultures, from the uplands of Ladakh on the Roof of the World in northern India, to the deserts of inner Mongolia, and the Andes Mountain of Peru.

Kid Pashmina : flee exclusively from the underbelly of the kid Pashmina goat, jealously guarde by the Moguls for its silky softness and reserved for members of the Royal Family.

Baby Cashmere : The finest goats are bred only in inner Mongolia. The ancient Chinese guarded their secret well, to achieve the maximum length of fibre the baby animal is combed only once for its soft under-fleece when it is a year and a half old.

Guanaco: since time immemorial used for cornation robes of the Royal Incas symbolizing their majesty and power. A member of the llama family, today the guanaco is herded by Indian nomads on the high plateau of the Andes Mountains. Only the hair of the young animal, Chulengo, is selected.

These, then, are the elements of Guanashina. Combine the elements with fine cloth maker’s skills, skills honed to perfection over centuries of practice in England, and “the most luxurious cloth in the world”, Guanashina, is created. A cloth of unsurpassed natural beauty , suppleness, and warmth.

Although great care is taken to obtain the purest of raw materials, only about 30% of the fibres will be selected for their length and fineness. This judicious selection means that only fabric, for less than two hundred garments world wide, will be produced.

A touch of colour, elaborate patterns and shining aspects. These are the features that characterize the Lanificio Ermengildo Zegna jackets for the coming spring/summer session: jackets that are rigorously produced with selected and top quality natural fibres.

The elegance will be expressed in Trofeo the classic worsted fabric in pure Australian superfine Merino wool, and in the refined blend of Cashmere/Silk, where the softness of the cashmere combines with the smooth and slippery hand of the silk. The company prospered and in 1840 moved on to the present site and started to weave cotton goods on power driven looms. A wide variety of cloths were woven : poplins, ginghams, lawns, fancies, rainwear, downproof and garbardines being the mains lines. Over the years the company has successfully marketed a range of classic shirtings on 100% cotton, mainly from folded long staple yarns. These fabrics, because of their world wide sales, now form the bulk of the production.

It is a signature fabric developed with a top European mill. Here are the techie details for those who like to know such things : Diameter of the wool fiber is 17.0 Microns, Warp is 2/96 NM, Weft is 1/50 NM, Weight is 7 3/4 oz / 8 1/4 oz. Translation for the fabric- challenged majority out there , This is a Super fabric. Super 130 in fact. With a year round weight and a luxury hand.

Along the creation of our shirtings we use the best materials at every single step. To produce the yarn for our fabrics, extra-long-staple cotton from selected fields in Egypt is brought to Switzerland.

Leading in quality. ALUMO shirtings are entirely produced in Switzerland. This allows a close quality control from the spinning, twisting and dyeing of the yarn to the weaving and finishing of the fabric.
